Mission statement - proposed

The Glen Ellen Forum is working on

  • Building a stronger community for the benefit of us all.
  • Working together from a positive frame of mind on common goals.
  • Valuing all our experiences, with a shared sense of civic discourse and respect of participants.
  • Carrying out all of our work with elements of tolerance, co-operation, compromise, diversity, preservation and inclusiveness.

There is always more that brings us together than what divides us. We are all volunteers.

UNITED WAY OF THE WINE COUNTRY

UPDATE:  The Forum is happy to report that it was able to fill ALL fire victim shed applications received by the lottery deadline, instead of the 10 we anticipated funding. The sheds were funded through the United Way Wine Country Sonoma County Wildfire Recovery & Resilience Neighborhood Grant. Additionally, with support and help from discounts by Home Depot and a deep discount from Friedman's Home Improvement, along with a very generous donation from Beltane Winery's Wine Club Members, the Forum was able to fulfill ALL 20 of the shed requests received earlier. We are very grateful to all who made this possible. For those needed assistance in assembling the sheds, the Forum will organize some shed-building work parties in January. Notifications for application information were found in the Kenwood Press, Glen Ellen Forum's Facebook, the Glen Ellen Forum's website, posted on Nextdoor.com, posted in the kiosk in front of the Glen Ellen Post Office, posted inside the Glen Ellen Post Office, and announced at the December 3rd Forum meeting.

NEW BYLAWS DRAFTED

The AD HOC BYLAWS COMMITTEE convened during the week of Thanksgiving, for the purpose of drafting new bylaws to be presented at the January 17, 2019 meeting of the Board of Directors. To ensure inclusiveness, input was invited from the public by direct email to jshere@sonic.net.

The current draft of the updated bylaws as well as a manual of policies and procedures is available for your review and comment here: BYLAWS & MANUAL COLLATION 1_15.  Please forward any feedback to Jim Shere using the email link above. The Board of Directors will vote to adopt the new Bylaws and Policies and Procedures in April of 2019.

Jim Shere reported on the progress at the January 7th Town Hall meeting of the Glen Ellen Forum. See existing bylaws (adopted 02/14/18).

GOT HOUSING? NEED HOUSING?

Please visit Facebook's Keep Them In Sonoma Valley - Homes For Fire Victims set up by Glen Ellen's Ed Davis. Ed is keeping a running inventory of housing needs and availability in Sonoma Valley!

Another Opportunity to Help

A growing number of Sonoma County residents, especially older adults are without a home. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of SHARE (Shared Housing and Resource Exchange) living arrangements are being made between two or more unrelated people, who agree to share a home or apartment for their mutual benefit. As part of SHAREfire, SHARE has broadened their scope to allow for all kinds of housing. Whether you can provide a home, are seeking a home, or interested in making a donation, for more information email them at info@sharefire.org.
