The Glen Ellen Fair is next Sunday

The Annual Glen Ellen Village Fair is coming up on Sunday 10/13 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The Parade commences at 12 noon featuring our Grand Marshall Jim Shere! Immediately following the Parade all booths will be open and the entertainment begins! Live local bands, delicious food, beer and wine for the adults, 80+ booths, face painting and pony rides for the kids. On 10/13 Arnold Drive will be closed from Warm Springs Road to London Ranch Road from 9:30am to 6:00pm

Introducing the Glen Ellen Forum “Enviro” Committee

The Landscape & Environment committee will inform the community about fire wise, water wise and wildlife friendly landscaping. There are some potential tensions among the three goals. For example, fire wise literature emphasizes “well irrigated” plants, and some people misinterpret that, installing lawns or high water ornamentals. Fire wise literature emphasizes a 5 foot non-ignition zone around the house, along with well spaced plants with impervious surfaces between them, in the 0-30′ zone. People often exaggerate in their response to these recommendations, clearing beneficial plants from their yards and destroying wildlife habitat. We hope to educate the community on how to navigate these apparent conflicts, finding the sweet spot to arrive at recommendations that preserve and even add habitat, while promoting fire and water wise landscaping. Stop by the Enviro Committee’s booth at the Glen Ellen Fair on October 13, to learn more or get involved.
